Kasba Law College Gang Rape: 17 Students Identified, BJP Sends High-Level Probe Team

Police identify 17 students in Kasba Law College gang rape case; CCTV backs survivor's claim. BJP forms probe panel amid shocking campus safety revelations.

In a deeply disturbing development at South Calcutta Law College in Kasba, police have identified 17 students who were present on campus on the day a female law student was allegedly gang-raped. Each of them will be examined to verify the survivor’s statement and establish the timeline of events.

CCTV and Call Records Corroborate Survivor’s Account

Police officials have confirmed that CCTV footage and call detail records gathered from the scene align with the victim’s version of events. This technical evidence significantly bolsters the investigation. Additionally, the college’s vice principal has stated that none of the accused had access to CCTV footage, ruling out possible tampering.

Chilling Revelations from the Night of the Crime

According to sources, the accused reportedly seized the night guard’s mobile phone during the assault — allegedly to prevent him from alerting authorities. The guard, Pinaki Bandyopadhyay, was stationed just outside the guardroom at the time. Police say this room had long served as a party spot for the main accused, Monojit Mishra, and his associates, who often stayed on the premises late into the night, even after the college closed at 4 PM and staff left by 7 PM. Security personnel reportedly lived in constant fear of them.

BJP Forms Four-Member Fact-Finding Committee

Amid growing public outrage, the BJP has constituted a high-level fact-finding panel to investigate the incident independently. The committee will visit the site and submit a report to BJP National President J.P. Nadda. The members include:

  • Shri Satpal Singh – Former Union Minister and retired IPS officer
  • Smt. Meenakshi Lekhi – Former Union Minister
  • Shri Biplab Kumar Deb – Member of Lok Sabha
  • Shri Manan Kumar Mishra – Member of Rajya Sabha

The party's intervention comes as questions grow louder around campus safety, administrative oversight, and the delay in justice.

More Misdeeds of Main Accused Monojit Mishra Emerge

Fresh details have now come to light about Monojit Mishra, the main accused in the gang rape case. According to police, he was arrested in April for allegedly assaulting a police officer during an altercation near an ATM in Kasba.

The incident began when an ATM security guard called the police after a confrontation with Monojit. Upon the police’s arrival, Monojit allegedly became aggressive, leading to his arrest. He was also accused of verbally abusing officers inside the police station. Shockingly, despite the serious nature of the charges, Monojit was granted bail the very next day.
