Karnataka Woman Throws Chilli, Crushes Husband's Neck For Objecting Affair With Lover

Motivated by Shankaramurthy's disapproval of their affair, Sumangala attacked him at their farmhouse, resulting in his death. They then disposed of his body in a well 30km away.

A woman and her lover have been arrested for allegedly murdering her husband and discarding his body nearly 30 kilometres from their home in Karnataka’s Tumakuru district, police said on Saturday.

The woman, identified as Sumangala, is accused of killing her husband, 50-year-old Shankaramurthy, in a chilling act carried out at their farmhouse on 24 June. Investigators said she attacked him by throwing chilli powder in his face, striking him with a wooden stick, and ultimately pressing her foot against his neck until he died, reported India Today.

Sumangala worked as a cook at the Kalpataru College Girls’ Hostel in Tiptur. According to police, she was in a relationship with Nagaraju, a resident of Karadalusante village. Shankaramurthy had objected to the affair, which investigators believe became the motive for the murder.

After the killing, Sumangala and Nagaraju allegedly stuffed Shankaramurthy’s body into a gunny sack, transported it about 30 kilometres, and dumped it into a well hidden within a plantation.

The gruesome crime came to light when Shankaramurthy was reported missing. Officers at Nonavinakere police station, who initially treated it as a missing person’s case, grew suspicious after spotting chilli powder stains and signs of a struggle on the victim’s bedding in the farmhouse.

A deeper probe, including an analysis of Sumangala’s call records, led police to unravel the plot. Investigators said evidence confirmed her involvement and indicated that the murder stemmed from her husband’s resistance to the extramarital relationship.

Police have registered a case and continue their investigation to gather further details surrounding the crime.
