3 Minors Among 5 Dead As Fire Breaks Out At Firecracker Shop In Jharkhand's Garhwa, CM Expresses Grief

A fire at a firecracker shop in Jharkhand killed five people, including three children, due to suffocation.

Five people, including three minors, were killed after a fire broke out at a firecracker shop in Jharkhand's Garhwa, said the police on Monday. 

According to Shekhar Jamuar, Deputy Commissioner, Garhwa, the firecrackers were kept outside the shop, and when the fire broke out, the children and the shop owner ran inside in panic, reported ANI. 

Prima facie it appears that they died due to suffocation, he added. 

The police official said the bodies have been shifted to the hospital for postmortem, adding that the district administration is taking steps as per the provisions to provide ex gratia to the aggrieved families. 

A police team has reached the spot. The cause of the fire was not immediately known. 

Chief Minister Hemant Soren expressed grief over the incident and said that investigation by the district administration is underway. 

"Sad news has been received about the death of 5 people due to fire in a firecracker shop in Ranka block of Garhwa district," said the CM in a post on X. 

"May Marang Buru grant peace to the departed souls and give the bereaved family the strength to bear this difficult time of grief. The case is being investigated by the district administration," he added.

Flat Catches Fire From Firecrackers In Nashik

A fire broke out at a flat in Maharashtra's Nashik after some people burst firecrackers on a road near the house, said the officials on Monday, reported PTI. The firecrackers were being burst to celebrate the Indian cricket team's victory in the ICC Champions Trophy final. 

No one was injured in the incident which took place at around 10:30 pm on Sunday in the College Road area of the city. 

Some persons burst firecrackers on the road, due to which the house caught fire, a fire brigade official said.

Upon receiving the information, the fire brigade personnel immediately reached the spot and took around 30 minutes to contain the blaze, the official said. 

While the fire brigade personnel were busy extinguishing the flames, some youth, who gathered to celebrate the Indian cricket team's victory, climbed up the fire tender vehicle and started dancing on it, the official said.

Around 4,000 people had gathered for the celebration which posed obstacles in the fire-fighting operation after which the police intervened and dispersed the crowd, he said.
