IPS Officer On Way To Join First Posting Dies After Govt Car's Tyre Bursts In Karnataka
The officer was going to Hassan to report for duty as a probationary Assistant Superintendent of Police in Holenarasipur on Sunday.
An IPS officer died in a road accident while he was on his way to take up his first posting in Karnataka's Hassan district, police said on Monday. The 26-year-old, Harsh Bardhan, was a 2023-batch IPS officer of the Karnataka cadre and hailed from Madhya Pradesh.
He was going to Hassan to report for duty as a probationary Assistant Superintendent of Police in Holenarasipur on Sunday when the tyre of the police vehicle he was travelling in allegedly burst. The driver lost control and the vehicle hit a house and a tree on the roadside, police said.
Bardhan suffered severe head injuries and died in the hospital during treatment, while the driver, Manjegowda, suffered minor injuries. The IPS officer had recently completed his four-week training at the Karnataka Police Academy in Mysuru, police said, adding his father is a sub-divisional magistrate.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah condoled the loss and said, "Saddened to hear about the death of probationary IPS officer Harshabardhan in a horrific accident near Kittane border on Hassan-Mysore highway."
"It is very sad that such an accident has happened while he was on his way to take charge as an IPS officer. This should not have happened when years of hard work were paying off. I pray to God that Harshabardhan's soul rest in peace. My condolences to the family of the deceased," he said in a post on X.
