Instagram Influencers Mehak & Pari Arrested For Obscene Posts, Show Victory Sign In Custody

The arrests were made after a formal complaint was filed against the group. Sambhal Police acted promptly, analysing the Instagram account which has been flagged for posting offensive videos.

Two Instagram influencers from Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal district have been arrested for allegedly creating and circulating obscene and abusive content on social media. The duo, Mehak and Pari, with half a million followers on Instagram, were booked along with two other team members.

The arrests were made after a formal complaint was filed against the group. Sambhal Police acted promptly, analysing the Instagram account which has been flagged for posting offensive videos. “For the past several days, some girls had been making and sharing abusive videos, spreading obscenity,” police said in an official statement.

According to authorities, the group was producing vulgar content with the intention of earning revenue via social media. Investigations revealed they were earning between Rs 25,000 to Rs 30,000 per month. “They used abusive language and obscene visuals to attract viewership and gain cheap popularity,” the police added.

During the arrest, police seized two high-end iPhones and four additional smartphones used for content creation and distribution. The primary Instagram account has since been banned, but officials noted that the objectionable content is still being circulated through reposts and mirror accounts.

A case has been registered under Section 296 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 66 of the Information Technology Act. The arrests highlight ongoing efforts by law enforcement to clamp down on digital content that violates public decency and legal norms.

In a moment that sparked media attention, one of the arrested influencers was seen smiling and flashing a victory sign while being escorted by police outside the station.

The police concluded with a reminder about the limits of free speech: “Every individual has the fundamental right to express themselves, but that right is not absolute. One must act keeping in mind legal boundaries, societal norms, decency, and morality.”
