6 Dead, Multiple Injured As Tree Falls On Vehicles Near Manikaran Gurudwara In Himachal’s Kullu

Six people died and several were injured in Himachal Pradesh when a tree collapsed near a Gurudwara.

A landslide triggered by a storm in Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu district on Sunday claimed six lives and left as many injured after a massive tree fell on multiple vehicles near Gurudwara Manikaran Sahib, officials said. According to Kullu’s Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Vikas Shukla, medical teams, police, and revenue officials were present at the scene, coordinating rescue and relief operations.

“A tree on a mountain opposite the gurudwara got uprooted following a storm and landslide. It fell on some vehicles and wooden carts (‘rehri’) on the road,” officials stated, as per news agency PTI.

Among the deceased were Manikaran resident Reena, Varsini from Bangalore, and Sameer, a native of Nepal who was working in Kullu, officials said. The identities of the remaining three victims are yet to be ascertained.

Congress MLA from Kullu Sunder Singh Thakur said, “Six people were killed when a hollow tree on the mountain opposite the Gurudwara Manikaran Sahib fell on vehicles parked on the road.”

The injured have been identified as Bangalore resident Ramesh, his wife Palavi, and their son Bhargav, along with Haryana’s Prachi, Vikram Aacharya, and his wife Tumpa Aacharya. They were shifted to a hospital in Kullu and are reported to be out of danger.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur expressed deep grief over the incident. CM Sukhu has directed the district administration to provide all possible assistance to the victims and their families and ensure the best possible medical treatment for the injured.

Meanwhile, videos of the incident circulating on social media show people at the site alleging that no help reached the spot in the first hour.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Kullu Vikas Shukla rushed to the spot upon receiving the information. Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Kullu Ashwani Kumar stated, “Six people have died, and some have been injured. The injured have been shifted to a nearby hospital with the help of local residents. Efforts are ongoing to clear the debris and ensure no one remains trapped.”

Police and rescue teams transported five injured victims to the local community hospital at Jari, Kumar added. Relief and rescue operations continued late into the evening.
