2 Ashoka University Students Die In Separate Incidents On Campus, Probe Underway

Both students were rushed to the nearest hospital in the university’s ambulance, but they were declared dead upon arrival.

Two students studying at Ashoka University in Haryana's Sonipat were found dead in separate incidents, police said on Sunday. The two incidents took place on Friday night, according to police.

In one case, a 21-year-old student from Bengaluru is believed to have died after allegedly jumping from an upper floor of the hostel building, said Station House Officer of Rai police station, Sub-Inspector Kuldeep, over the phone. While suicide is suspected, further investigations are ongoing, according to a report by news agency PTI.

In a separate incident, another student coming from Telangana was discovered unconscious near the university's gate and is suspected to have suffered a cardiac arrest. He was quickly rushed to a hospital but was pronounced dead. Later, Police transported the bodies for postmortem to the civil hospital after the incidents.

The university said in a statement, "It is with profound sorrow that we share the news of the sad demise of two of our students in tragic, unrelated incidents on February 14, 2025."

Suicide Note Was Found In Student's Room

According to the statement, a suicide note was found in a student's room, and he was discovered unconscious shortly after. Just a few hours later, another student collapsed outside the campus.

Both students were rushed to the nearest hospital in the university’s ambulance, but they were declared dead upon arrival, the statement added. "The departed students were integral members of the Ashoka community and will be deeply missed by all. Our hearts go out to the bereaved family members, and we are providing all the support required in their hour of grief," the statement read.

The university also assured in its statement of its full cooperation with local authorities for the ongoing investigation.
