First Arrest Made In Himani Narwal Murder Case

The first arrest comes two days after Congress worker Himani Narwal's body was found stuffed inside a suitcase in Haryana near Sampla bus stand on Rohtak-Delhi Highway on March 1.

The Haryana Police on Monday arrested one person in connection with the murder of Congress worker Himani Narwal. The first arrest comes two days after Narwal's body was found stuffed inside a suitcase in Haryana.

Narwal's body was found near Sampla bus stand on Rohtak-Delhi Highway on March 1, day before the municipal elections. The incident sparked a massive political row in Haryana, leading to several demands for a high-level probe.

The Haryana Police on Sunday had set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the murder of the 23-year-old Congress worker. Four teams of the Rohtak Police had been looking for those involved in the murder, PTI reported citing a police official.

The 22-year-old woman lived at Vijay Nagar in Rohtak. The incident was brought to the fore after the suitcase was spotted by some passersby, who informed police.

Former CM Hooda Demands Speedy Justice For Narwal's Family

Former Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said on Sunday that he spoke to Rohtak's Superintendent of Police about the Himani murder case. He further stressed that police and the government should ensure speedy justice for the family of the victim.

Hooda also spoke to the victim's family and expressed his condolences. He stated that the entire Congress party stood with them and will fight for justice for the victim, PTI reported.  "The culprit should be identified and punished as per law. The Congress party stands with Himani's family in this hour of grief," Hooda said.

Meanwhile, Congress MLA from Rohtak B B Batra described Narwal as a very good and active worker of the party. "She used to participate in various programmes and she had also participated in the 'Bharat Jodo Yatra'... Those who have committed the crime should be severely punished," Batra said.

The Congress worker's family alleged that some leaders of the party envied her political rise in a short span, Hooda said.

The former CM also slammed the ruling BJP government in the state, saying "after the murder of Congress worker Himani, serious questions are being raised once again on the law and order of the state."
