A 35-year-old woman was brutally assaulted, partially stripped, and paraded through the streets over allegations of an extramarital affair in Gujarat. After the viral circulation of a video capturing the incident, police arrested 12 individuals, while a search is ongoing for three more suspects.

As per the report by the news agency PTI, the attack took place on January 28 in the Dhalmisal village of Gujarat when the woman visited another man’s house. According to the FIR, a mob, led by her father-in-law and her husband's brother, forcibly dragged her from the house and physically assaulted her. The woman, whose husband is currently imprisoned for murder, was paraded around the village as part of the public humiliation.

Police Arrested 12 People

Reacting to the incident, Dahod district's Superintendent of Police, Rajdeep Singh Jala, confirmed that the woman was later rescued from her father-in-law’s home, where she had been held captive. A police combing operation led to the arrest of the suspects, which included four men, four women, and four minors.

The accused were booked under multiple charges, including abduction, wrongful confinement, outraging a woman's modesty, and assault with intent to disrobe. Those who filmed and circulated the video online have also been booked under the Information Technology Act.

Police further requested the public not to share such videos and warned of legal consequences for those found distributing them.

The incident has sparked political outrage, with opposition parties, including Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), criticising the BJP-led Gujarat government and demanding strict action against the perpetrators.

In response, Gujarat Health Minister and government spokesperson Rushikesh Patel confirmed that police action had been launched in the case and the accused were arrested quickly, according to Indian Express.
