Eknath Shinde Receives Award From Sharad Pawar, Dy CM Says 'I Have Good Relations With Him'

According to Sarhad Sanstha, Shinde was awarded due to the decisions taken by him for the welfare of farmers, women, labourers, senior citizens, and the youth in the last two-and-a-half years.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Tuesday received the Mahadji Shinde Rashtra Gaurav Puraskar from NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar on the occasion of the 98th Akhil Bhartiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan in Delhi. Union Ministers Jyotiraditya Scindia and Muralidhar Mohol and writer Dr. Sadanand More were also present at the event.

After receiving the award, Shinde addressed the gathering and shared that he has good relations with Pawar. He recalled that Pawar was the son-in-law of Sadashiv Shinde, who was a spin bowler known for his googly, which he said was tough to decipher.

Shinde further praised Pawar and said that the latter also witnesses the development works being carried out in Maharashtra. "He (Pawar) calls me often. One has to learn from Pawar how to maintain relations going beyond political lines," he said.

"Pawar also bowls googly deliveries that are tough to decipher. I have good relations with Pawar, but he has not bowled me a googly. I am confident that he will not bowl me a googly in the future as well," Shinde said.

Sanjay Raut Criticises Pawar For Giving Award To Shinde

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut criticised Sharad Pawar for giving the award to Eknath Shinde. Both Shiv Sena (UBT) and NCP-SP are part of the Maha Vikas Aghadi in Maharashtra.

Expressing disappointment, Raut said he did not expect Pawar to praise Shinde and give him an award. He also reacted to Shinde's googly remark, saying that those who play googly get out by hit wicket.

"Do you know who gave this award? Such awards given to political leaders are either bought or sold," he said.

The 98th Akhil Bhartiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan will be held at the Talkatora Stadium in Delhi from February 21 to 23. Sharad Pawar is the chairman of the Sammelan's reception committee. It is being organised by Pune-based NGO Sarhad headed by Sanjay Nahar.

The award is named after Mahadji Shinde, a strategist of the historic Maratha Empire born in 1730. The Scindia family was started by him, which later came to be known as the Scindia family of Gwalior.

Under the Mahadji Shinde Rashtriya Gaurav Award, a certificate of honour, a memento and a traditional Shindeshahi turban are given along with Rs 5 lakh.

According to Sarhad Sanstha, Shinde was awarded due to the decisions taken by him for the welfare of farmers, women, labourers, senior citizens, and the youth in the last two-and-a-half years.

While addressing the gathering, Shinde also said that he learnt lessons in public life from Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray and his mentor Anand Dighe. He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah  ensured development works in Maharashtra in a short span of time of two-and-a-half years.
