Devotees Killed In Stampede While Offering Water To Shiva Idol In UP Temple

Two devotees were killed and several others were injured in a stampede at a Shiva temple in Uttar Pradesh's Barabanki. The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday when devotees were offering water to Lord Shiva in the auspicious month of Sawan.
An electric shock at the temple premises led to panic among devotees and resulting in a stampede.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took cognisance of and has expressed condolences to the bereaved families. The Chief Minister directed the officers to immediately reach the spot and expedite the relief work. The Chief Minister gave instructions for the proper treatment of the injured, the CMO said.

Medical treatment of the injured is underway. Around 19 people were injured, with two in serious condition," District Magistrate Shashank Tripathi said.

The incident comes a day after eight people were killed in a stampede at the Mansa Devi Temple in Haridwar. The stampede occurred over rumours of electrocution at the famous shrine in Uttarakhand.
In Barabanki, those who were killed have been identified as Prashant (22) from the Mubarakpura village and another 30-year-old devotee. They succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment at the Trivediganj Community Health Centre (CHC), officials said.
A total of 10 injured persons were brought to Trivediganj CHC, of whom five were referred to higher medical centres due to their critical condition.
As many As 26 people were being treated at the Haidergarh CHC, and one of them has been referred for advanced care due to serious injuries.
An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the incident.
