Winter Chill Sets In As Temperature Drops To 8° Celsius In Delhi, IMD Forecasts Fresh Rainfall Today

Delhi anticipates light rain and dense fog on Monday, with temperatures hovering between 23 and 8 degrees Celsius.

Delhi will likely receive light rain on Monday with moderate to dense fog engulfing the city amid intensifying cold. Haryana, Punjab, and Delhi are expected to receive isolated rainfall on Monday and Tuesday, according to India Meteorological Department.

The maximum and minimum temperatures on Monday are expected to settle at 23 degrees Celsius and 8 degrees Celsius respectively with moderate to dense fog in the morning.

Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West and East Uttar Pradesh are also likely to receive light rain on Monday.

Parts of the city experienced rainfall on Sunday as well including West Delhi, Outer North Delhi, and Gurugram. The national capital recorded its second-lowest daytime temperature of the winter season so far on Sunday at 23.7 degrees Celsius.

Winter is set to intensify further in the Delhi NCR region as the weather department has predicted the minimum temperature to drop to 6 degrees Celsius in the coming three days.

North India will also experience fog in the coming days while the weather department has also warned of coldwave in several parts including West Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, West Rajasthan, and East Rajasthan.

After days of cleaner air, the national capital witnessed deterioration in air quality on Sunday plunging again into the 'very poor' category.

On Monday, the air quality in the city remained in the "poor" category with an Air Quality Index of 231 and a layer of smog engulfing parts of the national capital.

An AQI between zero and 50 is considered "good", 51 and 100 "satisfactory", 101 and 200 "moderate", 201 and 300 "poor", 301 and 400 "very poor", 401 and 450 "severe" and above 450 "severe-plus".

In view of the intensifying winters, the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) has set up 235 pagoda tents to provide shelter to homeless individuals during cold winter nights.

A total of 250 tents are to be set up, according to the Delhi government's winter action plan 2024-25 launched on November 15.
