‘Power Cuts Back Under BJP Rule’: Atishi Slams Delhi Govt, Shares Photo Of Her Home In Darkness
AAP's Atishi accuses the BJP government in Delhi of failing to provide an uninterrupted power supply, claiming outages have increased since they came to power.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi on Monday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Delhi of failing to ensure uninterrupted power supply, alleging that outages have surged since the party assumed office last month. In response, Delhi BJP President Virendraa Sachdeva countered the allegations, asserting that providing round-the-clock electricity is a fundamental duty of any government and accusing the previous AAP administration of corruption in managing the power sector.
Addressing a press conference, Atishi remarked, “Before the AAP government came to power, long power cuts were normal in the national capital. Every household used to have inverters. But after Arvind Kejriwal became the chief minister of Delhi in February 2015, power cuts became history.” She cited data presented by the BJP-led central government in the Rajya Sabha to claim that Delhi enjoyed uninterrupted power supply under the AAP administration.
“The people of Delhi do not need data because they know that for the past 10 years, their inverters were unused, and they didn’t have to change batteries. But now, after the BJP formed the government in the city, power cuts are on the rise,” Atishi said, as quoted by news agency PTI. Questioning the sudden increase in outages, she added, “How is it that in 10 years there were no outages, but within a month of BJP rule, power cuts are back? This means only one thing: the BJP doesn’t know how to run the government. They neither have the intention nor the capability to serve the people of Delhi.”
Atishi Shares Photo Of Home In Darkness, Highlights Complaints Of Power Outage
Atishi highlighted her own experience of a power outage, sharing a picture of her home in darkness with a candle on the table. She posted on social media, “Until now, I was sharing others’ posts about power cuts… but now even my own house has no electricity!”

Emphasising AAP’s track record, she stated, “Our intentions were clear. The AAP government had proven that 24-hour electricity in Delhi was possible because we were honest. But as soon as the BJP government took over, power cuts have begun. The truth is that the BJP government lacks integrity.”
She further questioned, “For 10 years, Delhi had uninterrupted power because AAP ministers only focused on work. What has changed in just one month that 24-hour electricity is no longer a reality?”
Criticising the BJP’s governance, Atishi said, “There are two ways to run a government: either you work or you make money. When ministers spend their entire day asking officials how much money can be made from each contract, the officers spend their time figuring out ways to extract funds and relay them to the ministers.”
Delhi BJP President Cites Example Of BJP-Ruled States In Response To AAP
Sachdeva, in his rebuttal, dismissed Atishi’s claims and stated that an uninterrupted power supply is not an extraordinary achievement. “BJP-ruled cities like Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Bangalore, and many others already have uninterrupted electricity supply. Uttar Pradesh, which until 2017-18 was considered a state with poor electricity production and supply, today shines with good power supply. Providing 24-hour electricity is a government’s duty, not a favour to the public,” he said.
He further credited the foundation of Delhi’s stable electricity supply to the President’s Rule in 2014, when the then Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley allocated funds for power infrastructure. “The central government allocated ₹675 crore for new power plants and ₹200 crore for strengthening power transformers and wires in Delhi,” he claimed. Accusing the previous AAP government of financial irregularities in the power sector, he alleged, “It is regrettable that the Arvind Kejriwal government only indulged in corruption under the guise of electricity supply between 2015 and 2025.”
Sachdeva also alleged that the AAP government collaborated with private companies in scams related to electricity subsidies and Power Purchase Agreements (PPA).
The power supply issue in Delhi is likely to be a new flashpoint between the ruling BJP and the opposition AAP, with both sides accusing each other of mismanagement and corruption.
