Delhi-NCR To Receive Light Rain Today As IMD Issues Orange Alert

IMD has forecast a generally cloudy sky with light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds.

Delhi and NCR will likely receive light to moderate rain on Friday as the India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for today.

"Generally cloudy sky with light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (speed 50-60 kmph) temporarily reaching 70 kmph during thunderstorms," the IMD forecast said. 

The weather department has forecast partly cloudly sky with very light rain and thunderstorm and gusty winds with 30-40 kmph speed on May 31. Partly cloudy sky and thundery development has been forecast for June 1, while partly cloudy sky with very light rain and thunderstorm is forecast on June 2.

With rain lashing parts of the national capital, an orange alert was also issued for Thursday night with forecast of rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds.

IMD had forecast a dust storm followed by a thunderstorm, with light to moderate rainfall, lightning, and gusty winds reaching 40 to 70 kmph, is expected at many places in Delhi and the NCR on Thursday.

An orange alert indicates that residents should be alert and prepared for potentially disruptive weather.

On Thursday, Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 39.1 degrees Celsius, which was 1.3 notches below the seasonal average, the India Meteorological Department said.

The minimum temperature was registered at 29.0 degrees Celsius, 2.4 notches above normal. The relative humidity fluctuated between 63 and 49 per cent. The forecast also predicted thunderstorms with rain along with gusty winds at speeds of 50–60 kilometres per hour.

According to the IMD, an orange alert indicates that residents should be alert and prepared for potentially disruptive weather.

Meanwhile, the air quality in the national capital was recorded in the 'moderate' category, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) reading of 173 at 5:00 PM, as per the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data.
