Delhi: Nabi Karim Dargah Wall Collapses After Heavy Rain, 1 Dead

Delhi rain: Heavy rainfall in Delhi led to the collapse of a dargah wall in Nabi Karim, killing one person, and injuring two.

Delhi, which has been experiencing heavy downpours over the last few days, saw a rain-related death after a wall at a dargah in the Nabi Karim area of central Delhi collapsed. The dargah wall collapse injured two others, news agency PTI quoted Delhi fire department officials.

The Delhi Fire Service (DFS) received an emergency call about the incident around 7 AM, prompting them to deploy three fire engines to the scene. An official from DFS mentioned that two individuals were pulled to safety, although it was feared that others might still be trapped beneath the rubble.

During the rescue efforts, one man was found beneath the debris. He was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival. A local police officer confirmed that the incident occurred at approximately 6:45 AM.

The victim was identified as 35-year-old Rehmat, a native of Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh. According to the police, Rehmat, who operated an e-rickshaw, lived in a temporary shelter built near the wall.

IMD Issues Orange Alert For Delhi

Owing to the heavy rain, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an 'orange' alert for the city for Friday, advising residents to "be prepared" for extremely bad weather. With this alert, the weather department warned of possible disruptions in transport, including rail, road, and air travel, as well as potential power outages.

The IMD said that a depression, which originated over central India, is likely to bring 'heavy' to 'extremely heavy' rainfall in Delhi, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, parts of Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh over the next two days.

Meanwhile, the downpour throughout the night and early on Friday morning resulted in waterlogging at several places. The waterlogging hit traffic and caused snarls on several stretches.
