Delhi Govt Demands Action As IGI Airport Waste Illegally Dumped Near Flight Path, Posing Safety Risks
Delhi government has demanded action from the municipal corporation regarding the illegal dumping of untreated waste from IGI Airport at Rangpuri Pahari.

The Delhi government has informed the municipal corporation, demanding action, as the untreated waste from the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport is being illegally dumped at Rangpuri Pahari in Vasant Kunj. According to the Indian Express, the government has sought action and flagged the alleged involvement of unauthorised vendors and illegal immigrants.
The Delhi government has sought that the civic body and the Delhi police set up a checkpost to prevent the entry of any unauthorised vehicles transporting such waste, impound illegal trucks engaged in such operations, and also initiate action against the unauthorised vendors and private landowners who have unauthorisedly rented their land for illegal dumping.
According to the Indian Express, two letters were written by the district magistrate (DM) of New Delhi earlier this month, days after a conditional offer was issued by the sub-divisional magistrate (Vasant Vihar) to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), and the forest department, asking them to prevent this illegal dumping.
According to the report, in one of his letters sent to MDC, the DM said that the issue of illegal dumping of waste at Rangpuri Pahari has severe consequences, including the aircraft accidents and health hazards, among others.
A joint inspection was then conducted by DM following the conditional order, which revealed the mass-scale illegal dumping by trucks. The DM also said that the Aerocity area, which has commercial installations such as hotels and restaurants, was being inspected to review the waste management.
