Arvinder Singh Lovely Appointed Delhi Assembly Pro Tem Speaker, First Session To Be Held On Feb 24
Delhi's Lieutenant Governor appointed Arvinder Singh Lovely as the pro tem speaker of the Delhi Assembly, which will hold its first session on February 24.

Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena on Saturday appointed Bharatiya Janata Party Arvinder Singh Lovely the pro tem speaker of the Delhi Assembly.
The Delhi Legislative Assembly will have its first session after the assembly polls on February 24. The oath of the newly elected members will take place at 11 am while the election of the Speaker will be held at 2 pm.
"I hereby appoint Shri Arvinder Singh Lovely, a Member of the newly elected Legislative Assembly of the National Capital Territory of Delhi to perform the duties of the Office of the Speaker from the commencement of the said meeting and until the new Speaker is elected," said the LG in an notification.
"I also hereby appoint Shri Arvinder Singh Lovely to be the person before whom Members of the newly elected Legislative Assembly of the National Capital Territory of Delhi shall make and subscribe oath or affirmation in accordance with the provisions of section 12 of the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi Act, 1991," the notification read further.

Pro tem Speaker is a temporary Speaker who conducts the proceedings of the House for a limited period and till the election of the full-time Speaker.
Bharatiya Janata Party came back to power in the national capital after 26 years unseating the Aam Aadmi Party from its 12-year rule in Delhi. The saffron party won 48 of the 70 seats in the Legislative Assembly while AAP got 22 seats and Congress drew a blank for the the consecutive third time.
First-time MLA from Shalimar Bagh, Rekha Gupta was chosen as the chief minister by the party and took the oath of office on Thursday while Parvesh Verma was sworn in as Deputy Chief Minister besides five more legislators who assumed office as cabinet ministers.
