161 Cops 'Missing' From Kanpur, No Response Despite Multiple Notices

Kanpur Cops Missing: Over 161 Kanpur police personnel have been put in the "dislocated" category after prolonged, unexplained absences, some for six months.

At least 161 police personnel posted under the Kanpur Police Commissionerate have been "missing" from duty. While some have been missing for a few days, there has been no communication from others for as long as six months.

According to departmental sources, these personnel had taken leave to visit their hometowns but never returned. Repeated notices were sent to them, but none responded. The absentees include officers posted across all four zones of the commissionerate, as well as those in the police lines, headquarters, and traffic department, reported ABP News.

With no communication from them and continued absence despite multiple reminders, all of them have now been officially listed as "dislocated" — a category for personnel who've lost their posting due to prolonged absence without intimation.

No Trace Even After Repeated Letters

Officials say letters were sent twice to each missing cop's hometown address. There's been no reply. None have reported back either. The department has now sent a detailed report to the police headquarters.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Headquarters) S M Qasim Abidi said strict action will be taken as per rules against those who have been absent for such extended periods. He added that efforts are still underway to trace the missing personnel, and appropriate action will be taken soon.

Getting Leaves Still A Challenge

Sources within the department admitted that getting official leave isn't easy in the police force, and sometimes officers don't return on time due to family or personal issues. However, the department is now preparing to tighten rules to prevent such incidents in future.
