In response, the Railway Safety Commissioner of the Southern Circle, Anant Madhukar Chowdhary, conducted an inspection of the accident site on Saturday.

Rahul Gandhi, Udhayanidhi Demands Centre To Address Issue

Rahul Gandhi expressed his outrage on X (formerly Twitter), comparing the incident to the devastating Balasore train accident. He stated, "The Mysuru-Darbhanga train accident mirrors the horrific Balasore tragedy. Despite numerous accidents, no lessons are learned. Accountability starts at the top. How many more families must be destroyed before this government wakes up?"

Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin visited the injured passengers at Government Stanley Medical College Hospital in Chennai, where they are receiving treatment. He also took the opportunity to call on the Union government to implement stronger measures to prevent such accidents, saying, "These train accidents are becoming a series of avoidable events. It’s time the central government steps up and addresses this critical issue."

Meanwhile, following the accident, Southern Railway officials organized emergency transport to ensure passengers reached Chennai Central via two EMU special trains after an initial bus ride to Ponneri. The passengers on the Darbhanga Bagmati Express, who were stranded after the accident, were safely transported to their destination by a special train on Saturday, according to Southern Railway authorities.
