Hyderabad Police To Have Strict Lens On Drunk Driving
The Hyderabad Traffic Police has appealed to motorists not to drive if drunk. "If you have had alcohol, use public transport, or cabs to get home safely," the police said in a notice.
The management of hotels with three stars and more, clubs, bars, and pubs and event organisers are also directed to provide special parking arrangements and security to regulate traffic and ensure smooth access. While liquor service must be limited to the fixed hours at the pubs and bars, they are required to provide safe transportation to intoxicated patrons.
The Hyderabad Traffic Police will be conducting extensive checks to curb traffic violations, including drunken driving, rash and dangerous driving, speeding, wrong-side driving, helmetless and triple-riding on two-wheelers, etc. Stringent legal action will be taken against the violators/offenders.
Drunk driving would be punished with a penalty of Rs 10,000 and/or six months imprisonment. Repeat offenders may even lose their licences.
