Blast Near PVR In Delhi's Prashant Vihar During Arvind Kejriwal's Press Conference

The incident was reported while former CM Arvind Kejriwal was holding a press conference where he said Delhi is the most unsafe city in the world.

A blast was reported near a PVR in north Delhi's Prashant Vihar area on Thursday. The incident happened at around the same time as former CM Arvind Kejriwal was holding a press conference where he said Delhi is the most unsafe city in the world. One person suffered minor injuries in the blast.

"A call regarding a blast was received from the Prashant Vihar area at 11.48 AM today. Fire tenders have reached the site," Delhi Fire Service said.

According to Delhi Police sources, the blast is similar to the one that happened near a CRPF school in Prashant Vihar on October 20. But this was a low-intensity blast, the sources told ABP News.

The blast had destroyed the school's wall and shattered window panes on its premises. The incident was probed from many angles, including terrorism, and it has now been revealed that the blast occurred due to a cigarette. A person when walking his dog had casually flung the remaining part of a cigarette he had been smoking into a pile of garbage, Indian Express reported.

The police suspected that the explosion was caused by an IED (improvised explosive device) that was planted to give a message to the government authorities.

They also suspected that the explosive, wrapped in a brown coloured packet, was made using a mixture of three chemicals -- hydrogen peroxide, borate and nitrate -- weighing more than 2 kg.
