'Bihar Ki Maang, Sun Liye Nishant': Clamour Grows In JD(U) Over Nitish Kumar's Son Entry Into Bihar Politics

Nishant Kumar, in his first major political statement last month, had demanded that the NDA should name Nitish Kumar as CM face and that the government should be formed once again under his leadership

With months to go for assembly elections, the political temperature is rising in Bihar over the possible entry of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's son Nishant Kumar.

Nishant Kumar, who is the only child of JD(U) chief Nitish Kumar, was seen posing for photographs with senior JD (U) leader minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary and the party’s national working president, Sanjay Kumar Jha.

The meeting of Nitish's son with JD(U) top brass comes at the Holi celebrations on Saturday.

Nishant Kumar is likely to join the party after 'Kharmas' – a period considered inauspicious in Hindu astrology, The Indian Express quoted party sources as saying. The 'Kharmas' period is said to end on April 15.

Meanwhile, JD(U) supporters also put up a poster outside the party office in Patna in support of Nishant Kumar.

The posters read "Bihar ki maang, sun liye Nishant, bahut bahut dhanyawaad" (Nishant, thank you so much for listening to the demands of Bihar).

Last month, Nishant Kumar, in his first major political statement, had demanded that the NDA should name Nitish Kumar as CM face and that the government should be formed once again under his leadership.

Despite his low-profile nature, Nishant's growing presence in JD(U) circles has fueled speculation about his entry into Bihar politics.

In July 2024, he dismissed speculation about joining politics by stating that he had chosen a spiritual path.

Speaking on Nishant's prospects in JD(U), Bihar Minister Shravan Kumar had said that the entry of Bihar CM Nitish Kumar's son Nishant Kumar into politics rests solely with his father.

"Whether Nishant ji joins politics or not depends on Nitish Kumar. This decision is not possible without his approval. However, there is no doubt that Nishant Kumar has the knowledge and the grasp of Bihar's political landscape," the minister told news agency PTI.
