A key accused in the Munger ASI murder case in Bihar was injured in an encounter while trying to escape police custody. Munger SP Syed Imran Masood said the accused tried to flee after the police car he was being taken by met with an accident.

"Mufassil SHO was on his way to arrest another accused in the case. One of the arrested accused, Guddu Yadav, was in the car at the time. Suddenly, a flock of sheep came on the road and the driver hit a tree while trying to avoid the animals," Masood said. Taking advantage of the chaos, Guddu Yadav snatched a constable's rifle and tried to flee. The SHO warned him, but instead, he aimed the rifle at the police team. "The team shot at his leg in self-defence," he said.

The incident occurred in the Bhakarpur area. Four policemen, including the SHO, were injured in the incident.

Syed Imran Masood earlier said: "The family of one Ranbir Kumar, who were intoxicated, were creating a ruckus in Nandalpur village. Earlier, Bihar Deputy Sinha said the Bihar Police had full support of the Nitish Kumar government. "Bihar Police has full freedom. Criminals will be taught in their language. If needed, encounters will be carried out.

The back-to-back murders of policemen in Bihar has sparked an intense political war in Bhar ahead of the elections this year. While the Opposition has claimed that "jungle raj" prevails in Bihar, the ruling alliance has countered saying that the crimes were being orchestrated to malign the government.
