Heavy Rains Batter Bengaluru, Trigger Flight Diversions & Waterlogging On Arterial Roads

The IMD forecasts continued heavy rainfall and thunderstorms for several Karnataka districts, including Bengaluru. Key city roads were inundated, particularly in Hennur and Electronics City.

A spell of heavy rain lashed Bengaluru on Tuesday evening, leading to widespread waterlogging, traffic snarls, and major disruptions across the city. Core areas, along with northern and southern suburbs including Electronics City, bore the brunt of the downpour as stormwater quickly inundated roads and low-lying zones.

Bengaluru Waterlogging & Traffic Woes

Several key roads in Bengaluru turned into temporary streams as drainage systems were overwhelmed. Hennur in North Bengaluru was among the worst-hit zones. Central and southern neighbourhoods — including Richmond Town, BTM Layout, Sarjapur, and Electronics City — saw intense rainfall, as perr a report on Deccan Herald.

Bengaluru Flights Diverted To Chennai

The heavy downpour and poor visibility impacted flight operations at Kempegowda International Airport, forcing the diversion of six incoming flights — including international arrivals — to Chennai late Tuesday night. The diverted flights were including IndiGo flight from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Thai Airways flight from Bangkok, Thailand, as per a report on DT NExt.

All flights were rerouted due to unsafe landing conditions and touched down at Chennai around midnight. Normal operations are expected to resume as weather conditions stabilize.

Karnataka Weather Update

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that the southwest monsoon remains normal over Interior Karnataka but weak along the coastal belt. Despite this, rain activity was observed across several locations on the coast and in parts of inland Karnataka.

The IMD has issued a weather alert for Wednesday, predicting heavy rainfall and thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds reaching 40–50 kmph in parts of Ballari, Bengaluru (Urban & Rural), Chitradurga, Chikkaballapura, Mandya, Ramanagara, Tumakuru, and Kolar.

Moderate showers are also forecast in Chamarajanagar, Mysuru, Davangere, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Kodagu, and Vijayanagar.

City officials continue to monitor vulnerable areas for further rain-related emergencies, while citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel and stay updated with IMD alerts.
