Assam Govt Cancels All Class 11 Exams After Paper Leak
Class 11 examinations, which began on 6 March, were due to continue until 29 March. However, reports of breaches of protocol and paper leaks led Pegu to cancel the remaining exams.

All examinations for Class 11 of the Assam state board scheduled from 24 to 29 March have been cancelled following reports of multiple question paper leaks, Education Minister Ranoj Pegu said. The decision comes after the Higher Secondary first-year Mathematics paper – slated for 21 March – was leaked, forcing officials to cancel the test and lodge a police complaint.
Class 11 examinations, which began on 6 March, were due to continue until 29 March. However, reports of breaches of protocol and paper leaks led Pegu to cancel the remaining exams. “Due to reports of question paper leak and breach of protocol, the remaining subjects of HS First Year Examination 2025, scheduled from 24-29 March, stand cancelled,” he said in a post on X. A board meeting on Monday will determine the rescheduling of these examinations.
The Mathematics paper was leaked after 18 schools, including three government institutes, broke the security seal a day before the exam. “ASSEB has suspended the affiliation of 15 private schools across 10 districts for breaking the seal of Class 11 Mathematics question papers before the scheduled time,” Pegu said.
Assam Govt Takes Action
The state government will take action against three other schools for similar violations. These institutions have been barred from admitting Class 11 students for the 2025-26 academic year, the minister added.
According to an order issued by Controller of Examinations Ranjan Kumar Das, all school inspectors and principals of lead colleges had returned the sealed packets of the Mathematics paper following its cancellation. The order noted that some institutions had opened the packets on 20 March – a day ahead of the scheduled exam on 21 March – and warned that further leaks could not be ruled out, as the remaining papers were in the custody of local institutions.
An FIR has been lodged at the CID Headquarters in Guwahati, and 18 additional cases will be filed at local police stations against the implicated educational institutions. "Out of the 18 centres, we believe that not all have leaked the papers. Probably only one or two centres leaked the papers and those went viral on social media. The culprits will be found after a detailed probe by the police," Das told PTI.
Last week, the Class 9 English annual exam in Assam's Barpeta district was cancelled following a similar leak on social media.
