Army Jawan Among 2 Arrested In Ranchi In Double Murder Case

The jawan shot the victims using an AK-47 stolen from an Army unit. He had plotted the murder due to a property dispute related to a land worth Rs 4 lakh.

At least two persons, including an Army jawan were arrested in connection with a double murder case in Jharkhand's Ranchi, police said on Thursday.

The victims, identified as Budhram Munda and Manoj Kachchap, were shot dead during the immersion of Saraswati idol at Katrapa village under Nagri police station area on Tuesday. The victims were killed following a land dispute.

Ranchi senior superintendent of police (SSP) Chandan Kumar Sinha said that the Army jawan belongs to 47 Rashtriya Rifles posted at Kupwara in Jammu and Kashmir, news agency PTI reported.

"Out of four suspects, two persons, including an Army jawan, were arrested. The jawan, Manohar Topno, shot the victims using an AK-47 stolen from an Army unit, following a land dispute with Budhram," the SSP said.

He further said that Manohar stole the AK-47 from the unit and sent it to Ranchi with help of his friend Sunil Kachchap, who was also arrested.

During interrogation, Sunil Kachchap told police that the Army jawan had purchased land from Bhanichara Munda, Budhram's brother, in 2015-16. He had paid Rs 4 lakh for the land. However, Bhanichara Munda died in an accident.

After his brother's death, Budhram denied handing over the land to the jawan, which led to a revenge plot. Police said the murders were planned and carried out by Manohar Topno and Sunil Kachchap.

The search to nab two other suspects is underway.
