Pregnant Woman Sexually Harassed, Pushed Off Moving Train In Tamil Nadu; 1 Detained

According to the Jolarpettai Railway Police, the woman was using the washroom in the women's compartment of the Express train when two men waylaid her and was sexually harassed her.

She was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

A four-month pregnant woman was allegedly sexually harassed and pushed off a moving train near Jolarpettai in Tamil Nadu's Tirupattur district. The incident reportedly took place while the woman was travelling to Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh in Tirupati Intercity Express on Thursday. The crime came to light after the passersby found the woman with injuries on the railway platform.

According to the Jolarpettai Railway Police, as per India Today, the woman was using the washroom in the women's compartment of the Express train when two men waylaid her and was sexually harassed her. When she resisted and screamed for help, one of the accused allegedly pushed her off the train. 

Jolarpettai Railway Police told ANI, "A four-month-pregnant woman was sexually harassed by a man in the women's compartment of a moving train. When the woman struggled to escape and shouted for help, the accused pushed her off the train." 

She was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The railway police have reportedly registered a case and further investigations are on. 

After the incident, the prinicipal Opposition party condemned the functioning of Tamil Nadu government. The Leader of Opposition Edappadi K Palaniswami, taking to X said, "It is the height of shame that women in Tamil Nadu cannot walk safely on the road; cannot go to school, colleges, or workplaces; and now cannot even travel by train. @mkstalin The continuation of such atrocities is an extension of the DMK government's failure to pay even the slightest attention to the safety of women."

"I urge that strict legal action be taken against these perverted and devious people," he added.
