Police said that after demanding food at the shack, one of the tourists then began using abusive language against a woman working at the shack.
The argument then escalated into a scuffle, after which one of the shack workers allegedly struck on tourist Ravi Teja's head with a wooden stick. The man died on the spot.
However, a report in The Indian Express said that the altercation took place after the tourists placed an order for more food after midnight, upon which the shack owner allegedly told them they would be charged "extra" since it was late.
Then one of the accused slapped a tourist, which erupted into a fight. In the altercation, the victim was allegedly hit on the head with a bamboo stick.
The Calangute police later arrested shack worker Kamal Sonar, hailing from Nepal. Meanwhile, the search is on for two other persons, including the shack owner, police said.
The police registered a case of murder against the accused, an official added. The incident comes at a time when Goa is seeing a huge influx of visitors ahead of the New Year celebrations.
