3 Women Killed, 8 Injured As Bus Collides With Auto Carrying Farm Labourers In Andhra's Guntur

The collision took place between a bus and an auto carrying farm labourers to work in a chilli field at Neerukonda village in Guntur district, Andhra Pradesh.

At least three women were killed and eight were injured after an RTC bus collided with an auto in Andhra Pradesh's Guntur district. The auto was carrying farm labourers to work in a chilli field at Neerukonda village in Guntur.

The deceased women have been identified as Aruna, Nacharamma, and Seetharavamma, all residents of Shudapalli village in Chebrolu mandal.

A case has been registered by the Chebrolu police and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident has been initiated, Koteswara Rao, Ponnur rural circle inspector told news agency ANI.

A similar accident took place in Anantapur in Andhra Pradesh in November last year when at least seven people died and four others were injured after an RTC bus collided with an auto carrying agricultural labourers. 

The accident occurred when 12 agricultural labourers were travelling from Nellutla village in Kuttluru Mandal in an auto to work in Garldinne Mandal.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu had expressed deep shock over the incident and announced an ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh for each victim's family. He also directed the officials to ensure the injured receive best medical treatment.

The RTC bus was reportedly coming from the opposite direction and collided with the auto, resulting in the death of two people on the spot. Two others died while being taken to a hospital. Three other victims succumbed to their injuries during treatment in the hospital. The remaining injured were treated at the Anantapur Government Hospital, news agency ANI reported.

District SP Jagadeesh and DSP Venkateswarulu inspected the site upon receiving the information about the accident. Police also took the RTC bus driver into custody for further investigation.
