Pune News: Prime Minister Narendra Modi's scheduled visit to Pune on Thursday (September 26) has been cancelled amid heavy rain in several districts of Maharashtra. PM Modi was set to inaugurate the much-anticipated underground Metro corridor linking Civil Court to Swargate in Pune today.
Heavy rain has caused havoc in parts of Maharashtra with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a red alert in several districts Thursday. A holiday has been declared in schools and colleges across Mumbai and Thane in consideration of the safety of students while the rain hit local train and flight schedules.

Located at two key sites, IITM and the National Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecast (NCMRWF) in Noida, the new high-power computing systems -- named 'Arka' and 'Arunika' -- are expected to significantly enhance the accuracy and lead time of predictions related to tropical cyclones, heavy precipitation, thunderstorms, hailstorms, heat waves, droughts, and other critical weather phenomena.
In addition to the infrastructure push, the Prime Minister was also set to lay the foundation stone for the memorial of Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule’s first girl school at Bhidewada in memory of the noted social reformer. Later, he was scheduled at address at a public meeting at SP College campus.
