AAP Opts Out Of Delhi Mayor Race Just 4 Days Ahead Of Elections
Saurabh Bharadwaj said there's a triple-engine government in Delhi now and let the BJP now show what they can do for the people of the national capital.

The Aam Aadmi Party will not contest the Mayor elections in Delhi, Leader of Opposition Atishi announced on Monday, just days ahead of the April 25 elections. AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj said there's a triple-engine government in Delhi now and let the BJP now show what they can do for the people of the national capital.
"BJP has no excuses left now. With the triple-engine setup, they have every opportunity to work for the people of Delhi," he told mediapersons. Atishi said, "The BJP has increased its numbers by buying and breaking councillors, but we haven't done that, nor will we. That’s why AAP has decided not to contest the mayor election".
After suffering a loss in 2019, the BJP's strength in the MCD has risen to 119 as several AAP MLAs have defected over the past few months. Both MPs and MLAs nominated to the MCD are eligible to vote in the elections for the posts of mayor and deputy mayor.
As per a notice issued by the MCD Secretary’s Office, the corporation will hold its ordinary meeting on April 25, during which the elections for mayor and deputy mayor will be conducted at 2 pm.
Nominations began on April 15 and will close at 5 pm today (April 21). Candidates may withdraw their nominations at any time before the election.
