Zomato Co-Founder And CTO Gunjan Patidar Resigns

Zomato had witnessed some top level exits last year, including another co-founder of the company Mohit Gupta.

In yet another top level exit from online food delivery platform Zomato, its co-founder and Chief Technology Officer Gunjan Patidar resigned on Monday. Patidar, one of the first few employees of Zomato, built the core tech systems for the company, it said in a regulatory filing.

"Over the last ten plus years, he also nurtured a stellar tech leadership team that is capable of taking on the mantle of leading the tech function going forward. His contribution to building Zomato has been invaluable," the company said.

It, however, did not disclose reasons for his resignation. Zomato shares closed at Rs 60.26 apiece on Monday, up 1.52 per cent.

Zomato said that Patidar was not designated as key managerial personnel under the Companies Act, 2013, and SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015.

Zomato had witnessed some top level exits last year.

In November last year, another co-founder of Zomato, Mohit Gupta, had resigned. Gupta, who had joined Zomato four-and-half years back, was elevated to co-founder in 2020 from the position of CEO of its food delivery business.

Rahul Ganjoo, who was head of new initiatives, and Siddharth Jhawar, the erstwhile vice-president and head of Intercity, and co-founder Gaurav Gupta also had quit last year.

Zomato in November announced to lay off nearly three per cent of its workforce on account of cost-cutting efforts and to turn profitable.

Zomato had stated that layoffs would be based on regular performance. "There has been a regular performance based churn of under 3 per cent of our workforce, there's nothing more to it," a Zomato spokesperson said.

The company currently has nearly 3,800 employees.

In May 2020, Zomato laid off about 520 of its employees, or 13 per cent of its staff, following a hit in business following the Covid pandemic.
