How To Update Date Of Birth In Aadhaar Card: Step-By-Step Guide And Important Rules

Earlier, UIDAI allowed online updates for several fields, including DOB. However, currently, only address changes can be made online through the myAadhaar portal

The Aadhaar card, issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), serves as one of the most critical identity documents for Indian residents. With its wide use in government schemes, banking, travel, and digital verification, maintaining accurate personal details on the card especially the date of birth (DOB) is vital. To assist citizens, UIDAI has streamlined the DOB correction process, although it can now only be done offline.

Offline Process To Update Date Of Birth In Aadhaar

To update your date of birth, individuals must visit a nearby Aadhaar Enrolment or Update Centre. Here is the detailed process:

  1. Locate the Nearest Centre: Visit the closest Aadhaar Enrolment/Update Centre.
  2. Fill the Update Form: Complete the Aadhaar Update or Correction Form, available at the centre or online at https://uidai.gov.in/images/Form_1_Eng.pdf
  3. Submit Valid Documents: Attach proof of DOB such as a passport, birth certificate, or government-issued ID.
  4. Biometric Verification: Provide biometric authentication to validate your identity.
  5. Receive Acknowledgement: A receipt with a 14-digit URN (Update Request Number) will be issued to track your request.
  6. Pay the Fee: A service charge of Rs 50 is applicable for the update.
  7. Processing Time: The update is usually processed within 90 days.

Online Update No Longer Available For DOB

Earlier, UIDAI allowed online updates for several fields, including DOB. However, currently, only address changes can be made online through the myAadhaar portal. All other updates—including name, gender, and date of birth—must be processed at enrolment centres.

Acceptable Documents For DOB Correction

To support a DOB update request, you must submit any one of the following documents:

  • Passport
  • Birth Certificate issued by a government authority
  • Service Photo ID from the central/state government or PSUs
  • Marksheet from a recognised board or university
  • Transgender ID card (as per the Transgender Persons Act, 2019)
  • Pension payment order or similar documents from statutory bodies

Can You Update Your DOB More Than Once?

As per UIDAI norms, a date of birth correction is allowed only once. If an individual needs to change it again, they must go through an exception-handling process via UIDAI’s regional office. This requires:

  • Visiting the Aadhaar Kendra
  • Submitting valid documents with justification
  • Getting approval from the UIDAI authorities after a review

No Changes Without Documentation

It is important to note that a DOB update request without valid proof will not be accepted. All applicants must provide legal documentation for the change to be processed.

For other Aadhaar-related services—such as updating mobile numbers, downloading e-Aadhaar, or linking Aadhaar to ration cards—UIDAI continues to offer both online and offline options based on the type of update.
