International Yoga Day 2025: Yoga Goes Global, Patanjali’s Initiative Unites The World In Wellness
Since its inception in 2014, this initiative has connected millions of people worldwide to the physical, mental, and spiritual benefits of yoga.

International Yoga Day, celebrated annually on June 21, has evolved from an ancient Indian tradition into a global movement. The credit for this transformation goes to the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the tireless efforts of Patanjali Yogpeeth.
Since its inception in 2014, this initiative has connected millions of people worldwide to the physical, mental, and spiritual benefits of yoga. Under the guidance of Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev, Patanjali has played a pivotal role in expanding the reach of yoga to households around the world.
In 2014, PM Modi proposed the idea of an International Yoga Day during his address to the United Nations General Assembly, emphasising the holistic benefits of yoga. With the support of 177 countries, the UN declared June 21 as International Yoga Day.
This date, which coincides with the summer solstice, holds spiritual significance in many cultures and symbolises light and unity. The first celebration in 2015 saw unprecedented global participation, with events in cities like New York, Paris, and Beijing, laying the foundation for an international movement.
Patanjali's Key Role In Global Outreach
Patanjali Yogpeeth has played a crucial role in this global outreach. Organising over 100,000 yoga camps worldwide, it brought yoga to diverse communities. In a historic event in 2015 at Rajpath in Delhi, 35,985 participants performed yoga together, earning two Guinness World Records for the largest yoga session and for participation from 84 countries. These achievements highlighted the universal appeal of yoga and Patanjali’s commitment to the cause.
Embraced Worldwide, From Japan to the US
Beyond events, Patanjali’s Ayurvedic products and scientific approach to yoga have boosted its global credibility. From Japan to the United States, Patanjali’s workshops and training programs have integrated yoga into daily life, addressing issues like stress, diabetes, and women's health. In Japan, the Patanjali Japan Foundation, in collaboration with the Indian Embassy, brought yoga to over 10,000 people, blending it with local practices like Zen meditation.
The theme for 2025, “Yoga for One Earth, One Health,” highlights yoga’s role in both individual and planetary well-being. Patanjali’s online and offline sessions have ensured inclusive access, positioning yoga as a tool for global harmony. As International Yoga Day enters its 11th year, Patanjali’s unwavering support continues to inspire millions, making yoga a universal practice for health, peace, and unity.
