Revised Guidelines
In a bid to enhance the domestic manufacturing environment, the guidelines of the scheme have been revised. One notable change is the introduction of an additional 1 per cent incentive for products that are designed, developed, and manufactured in India. This move is intended to promote innovation and design-driven production, encouraging companies to focus on creating high-quality, locally made telecom products.
Additionally, the revised guidelines have expanded the list of eligible products for incentives, adding 11 new items based on current industry requirements. Companies now have the flexibility to include one or more of these new products throughout the scheme's duration and can submit their incentive claims on a quarterly basis. This provides businesses with greater adaptability to meet changing market demands.
The PLI scheme now covers a total of 33 telecom and networking products, offering companies the opportunity to claim incentives on these items. The details of the scheme and its progress were shared by Dr Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, the Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development, during a written reply in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday, March 20. The government's focus on domestic manufacturing under this scheme is seen as a significant step towards strengthening India's telecom sector and boosting its global competitiveness.
