Diversity Hiring Rises 33 Per Cent YoY In India, BFSI And IT Sector Drive The Trend: foundit Insights

The tracker noted that Indian companies have been focusing on hiring candidates from diverse groups including women, persons with disabilities (PwD), and LGBTQIA+ in the last few years

Diversity hiring in India has been on the rise recently, the latest findings of the foundit Insights Tracker for June 2024 revealed. The data showed that the country recorded a 33 per cent jump in diversity hiring against the same period last year, showing that the corporates are increasingly prioritising diversity and inclusion (D&I) policies.

The tracker revealed that BFSI and IT-Software & Services (IT-ITeS) industries reported the maximum rise in diversity job postings in the country. The BFSI industry accounted for 30 per cent of the diversity jobs, while the IT industry contributed to 19 per cent of the jobs, reported Business Standard. Healthcare industry followed behind and accounted for 6 per cent share of the diversity jobs, the data revealed.

The tracker noted that Indian companies have been focusing on hiring candidates from diverse groups including women, persons with disabilities (PwD), and LGBTQIA+ in the last few years. Even the advertisements for jobs now use more inclusive language such as showcasing an applicant’s preferred pronouns to avoid any gender bias. Hiring itself has climbed up by 12 per cent on a year-on-year basis, while in the last six months, recruitment has gone up by 15 per cent, the data showed.

Region-wise, metros like Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, and Bengaluru drive the diversity hiring trend. These places have reported recruiting women, people from the LGBTQIA+ community, and persons with disability in a significant proportion.

In the overall share of jobs, women accounted for 14 per cent in Delhi-NCR, while 22 per cent jobs were held by PwD. Mumbai saw women and PwD account for 15 per cent of the job share each, the data found. Other cities in the lead included Hyderabad, Chennai, and Pune.

In job roles, the positions for AI/ML specialists, data scientists, digital marketers, and analysts remained in high demand in the country.
