Govt To Come Out With Digital Advertising Policy Soon: Anurag Thakur At DNPA Conclave & Awards 2024
He added, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has done good work to promote India's growth, and I request media people to promote good work done in India around the world"
The government will soon come out with the Digital Advertising Policy, said Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur on Tuesday. The minister, while speaking at the Digital News Publishers Association of India (DNPA) Conclave, said the digital industry will benefit from this policy as revenue loss will go down considerably and the government is working on that line. Thakur also spoke about the responsibility and importance of media today and the steps the government has taken to help them ease their work.
The minister mentioned passing the Press and Registration of Periodicals Bill, 2023, by the government, which has made the registration of periodicals/magazines/newspapers easier by reducing the registration time to just 60 days, which earlier used to take 1.5 to 2 years. During his address, he said, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi has done good work to promote India's growth, and I request media people to promote good work done in India around the world."
Speaking of the evolution of technology in the media domain, he said, "I have seen when I interact with a lot of print media or television people they come out with something where they feel a little reluctant when they see the online portal. I will just tell them that when televisions were introduced, people thought newspapers would be shut down, but none of the newspapers and televisions got shut down. With new technology, there will be a lot of new opportunities; all we have to do is evolve, upgrade and keep reskilling ourselves to convert these challenges into opportunities.”
“Today, we see even a small online platform owner or a report from a small village reporting a very small and interesting story which becomes a piece of breaking news on a television channel. So they are also contributing. Technology is going to stay here, so let us try and make the best use of it,” he added.
He also emphasised the fact that young journalists should know the best ethics of the media, and established media publications should take steps to reiterate that and help them work towards generating good content as future journalists.
