Ashwini Vaishnaw Says Electric Mobility Remains The Government’s Priority

The minister informed that this EMC facility in Mahabubnagar will focus on battery packs, and manufacturing and lithium batteries, key for the rapidly developing EV industry in our country.

Union Minister for Electronics and IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw, laid down the foundation stone for four manufacturing units at the Electronic Manufacturing Cluster in Mahabubnagar district in Telangana on Saturday. 

The minister in the event said the electric mobility remained a priority for the government and stressed that the authorities remained committed to developing the infrastructure and ecosystem required for pushing forward the adoption of EVs, reported PTI.

Vaishnaw further said, “We welcome Indian innovation and manufacturing initiatives and look forward to the success of this endeavor,” an official release noted.

The minister informed that this facility will essentially focus on battery packs, and manufacturing and lithium batteries, key for the rapidly developing EV industry in our country. "The Centre in collaboration with the state government is supporting the project, with the Centre providing funds for infrastructure," Vaishnaw stated.

The foundation for the upcoming Giga Factory-1 of Amara Raja company was also laid out in the ceremony. Further, the critical minerals refining and battery recycling unit of Lohum firm, the first LFP-CAM Giga Factory of Altmin, and the cell casing manufacturing unit of Scell Energy were also initiated during the event.

Ministry of Electronics and IT's EMC 2.0

Notably, the Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY) notified the Modified Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC 2.0) Scheme recently to help strengthen the electronics manufacturing industry in the country and help promote the EV manufacturing and supply chain. 

As part of the scheme, the authorities approved the establishment of Electronic Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) project spread over an area of 377.65 acres at Divtipally village in the state.

Notably, Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies (ARACT), the wholly-owned subsidiary of Amara Raja Energy and Mobility (ARE&M), inked an MoU with the Telangana government in 2022 to establish the Amara Raja Giga Corridor where the firm would establish Lithium Cell and Battery Pack Manufacturing facilities of up to 16 GWh and 5GWh respectively for domestic and international markets.
