New Delhi: Toyota has just shown its big new SUV for India and it is called the Urban Cruiser Hyryder. The Hyryder will be aimed at the popular compact SUVs like the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos while both are the best selling compact SUVs right now. While Toyota has not revealed dimensions, we do know the features and the engines so a quick comparison is required.

The features battle is fought on the inside with the Hyryder taking the battle to the Creta with features like a heads up display, climate control, 360 degree camera, 9inch screen, connected tech, panoramic sunroof, wireless charger, reclining rear seat, leather ventilated seats, rear ac vents, 6 airbags and more. The Creta has also a panoramic sunroof with connected car tech plus a rear view camera, climate control while getting wireless charging and an air purifier too plus seat ventilation. The Seltos got a features update too which means it also gets ventilated seats, wireless charging, connected car tech, air purifier and more. The Seltos and Creta have a 10.25-inch screen while the Hyryder has a 9inch one.
In terms of engines, the Creta has a 1.5l petrol which has an iMT clutchless manual plus CVT and a manual while a powerful turbo petrol has the DCT 7-speed automatic. There is also a diesel 1.5l with manual and automatic. The Seltos too gets the same engine configurations with 1.5l and 1.4l turbo with iMT, CVT and DCT being offered. The diesel also gets manual plus auto. The Urban Cruiser Hyryder meanwhile gets a 1.5l petrol with 100bhp with a 6-speed auto and a 5-speed manual with AWD also. There is also a hybrid 2WD with e-drive gearbox with an electric motor along with a dedicated EV mode for going in silent zero emissions mode.
Prices would be out in August for the Hyryder but it is indeed big competition for the Creta and Seltos with its hybrid and AWD but Creta and Seltos have more engine options too. The fight will get interesting when prices of the Hyryder get announced.
