Maruti Grand Vitara vs Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder — Interiors, Price, Specifications

Maruti Suzuki has finally unveiled the Grand Vitara SUV, the sister model to Toyota's Urban Cruiser Hyryder that was revealed on July 1.

Both Maruti and Toyota are entering the compact SUV segment with their own contenders which both these car-makers developed together. So these SUVs do share a lot but in this article, we will tell you if there are any differences at all or if it is a case of which badge appeals to you more. Let us have a look.

Which one looks better?

In terms of length there is a slight difference with the Grand Vitara measuring 4345mm in length vs the Hyryder measuring 4365mm in length. Elsewhere both have a width of 1795mm along with the same wheelbase of 2600mm. While the dimensions are similar more or less, the front-end is different along with a different design for the headlamp and the grille. The Hyryder gets slim LED strips along with a thin chrome line across the grille. The Grand Vitara has a thicker chrome line and a different lighting pattern seen on other Nexa cars. The rear styling is more similar with the same tail-gate design and more or less the same tail-lamp but with a different design.

Which one has more features?

There are no differences here with the interior getting the same steering wheel to the same digital instrument cluster or even the same 9-inch touchscreen system. The only differences are the interior colour choices while everything else is the same. The features list also includes a full-length panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, a 360-degree camera, ambient lighting, wireless charging, 6 airbags, and more.

Engine options?

Both SUVs have been developed with the same engine options being mild hybrid and strong hybrid powertrains. There is a 1.5l petrol with a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic torque converter. The manual version is available with an AWD system with terrain modes too. The mileage figure for the Grand Vitara has been revealed for now but we expect the Hyryder to be the same too. The manual 1.5 mild hybrid Grand Vitara has a mileage of 21.1 kmpl while the AWD gives 19.3kmpl.

Then there is the proper hybrid with a 1.5l petrol and an electric motor with an EV mode too. Total power is 115ps and the mileage figure is 27.9 kmpl.

Price

The Urban Cruiser Hyryder comes with an 8-year warranty for the battery and a 3-year warranty as standard. While the Grand Vitara would be sold through the Nexa Maruti sales outlets the Hyryder would be sold via the regular Toyota dealerships. We expect prices to be the same with the Toyota being slightly more expensive with a marginal price difference at best.
