DGCA Issues Advisory Circular On Gender Equality in Aviation Sector To Increase Women Representation
Through this step, the DGCA seeks to boost the presence of women in different roles, aiming for a target representation of 25 percent within India's aviation sector by 2025.
Mumbai: On June 19, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) of India released a circular advisory regarding "Gender Equality in Civil Aviation Sector" to encourage gender equality within the aviation industry.
Through this step, the DGCA seeks to boost the presence of women in different roles, aiming for a target representation of 25 percent within India's aviation sector by 2025.
The DGCA official stated that the circular aligns with the Indian Constitution's principle of gender equality and the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) vision to advance equal opportunities for achieving gender equality in aviation, quoted PTI.

The stakeholders should encourage “enhanced representation” of women in the aviation workforce, implement leadership and mentorship initiatives for women within the organization, tackle stereotypes and gender bias, and support improved work-life balance for female employees, as per PTI.
The circular provides specific information about the actions that stakeholders can implement to enhance their policies and procedures in order to tackle gender equality issues in the workplace.
The mentioned measures include adopting a zero-tolerance policy towards sexual harassment, identifying diversity objectives, formulating HR policies to achieve diversity goals, diversifying the work profiles of female employees, highlighting women role models/achievers, and implementing other facilitative steps that promote a gender-inclusive work culture.

The Hindustan Times reported that the DGCA stated that the circular would apply to all Indian operators engaged in scheduled and non-scheduled air transport services, both domestic and international, for the carriage of passengers, as well as all airport operators within Indian territory.
The circular concluded by stating, “Evaluate and analyse the exit interviews of women leaving the organization to implement future policy improvements in retention policies,” as quoted by the Hindustan Times.
