The effects of rain in the mountains are now evident in the plains of Uttar Pradesh, where most rivers are overflowing or have crossed the danger mark. Hundreds of villages are flooded, disrupting the lives of residents. According to official data, 633 villages across 12 districts in UP are affected by the floods. Furthermore, 19 people have lost their lives in lightning and rain-related accidents in the past 24 hours. UP Relief Commissioner G S Naveen Kumar reported that the affected districts include Pilibhit, Lakhimpur Kheri, Shravasti, Balrampur, Kushinagar, Basti, Shahjahanpur, Barabanki, Sitapur, Gonda, Siddharthnagar, and Ballia. In Lakhimpur Kheri, floods have wreaked havoc, transforming villages into islands, with approximately 1.5 lakh people affected. The Sharda and Ghaghra rivers are overflowing due to incessant rains, impacting five areas of the district. The town of Palia Tehsil Seal has been completely surrounded by water, turning it into an island."
