Politics: Mahagathbandhan Seat Sharing Formula In Bihar Almost Finalized Ahead Of Polls

In Patna, the Congress Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting is underway with senior leaders including Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge. Amid the discussions, sources indicate that the Mahagathbandhan has nearly finalized its seat-sharing formula for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections. According to the proposed arrangement, RJD is expected to contest 140 seats, Congress 52, Left parties 35, and Mukesh Sahni’s VIP 15. Minor adjustments could be made if RLJP or JMM join the alliance, potentially allocating two seats to each. The formula reflects a significant shift from 2020 when Congress contested 70 seats, while RJD had 144, marking a reduction for Congress but maintaining RJD’s dominant position. Mahagathbandhan leaders aim to consolidate support among key voter bases, particularly the Extremely Backward Classes, which constitute 36% of Bihar’s population. Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav are expected to launch the Ati-Pichda Nyay Sankalp to mobilize these voters. The ongoing CWC meeting is seen as a strategic move to energize the alliance, counter BJP narratives, and highlight Congress’s commitment to social justice and caste-based representation. With BJP also holding internal meetings for seat allocation, political activity in Bihar has intensified. Mahagathbandhan’s coordination indicates a focused effort to maximize electoral gains and present a united front ahead of the 2025 Bihar Assembly polls.
