Major Mishap Averted During Mumbai Monorail Trial as Front Coach Suffers Damage at Wadala

A major accident was narrowly avoided in Mumbai this morning during a trial run of the city’s monorail service. The incident occurred at the Wadala depot, where the front portion of a monorail train sustained damage due to a sudden technical failure. Visuals from the spot showed the damaged section of the train and the technical teams working to assess and contain the situation. According to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), the trial was part of routine testing for newly introduced coaches after earlier technical issues had halted services. Notably, a similar malfunction was reported in September, following which operations were temporarily suspended and upgraded trains were introduced. Officials confirmed that no passengers were on board during the test run, and there were no injuries reported. The MMRDA has initiated a detailed investigation to determine the exact cause of the malfunction. Technical experts are currently inspecting the damaged section to ensure safety before resuming further trials. The incident has raised renewed concerns over the reliability of Mumbai’s monorail network, which has faced repeated operational setbacks since its launch.
