Karnataka Power Struggle: Siddaramaiah Refuses RS Offer, CM Change Buzz Intensifies in Congress

A major political development has emerged from Karnataka, where an internal power struggle within the Congress party appears to be intensifying over the chief minister’s post. According to exclusive inputs, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has reportedly conveyed to the central leadership that he has no interest in moving to national politics or accepting a Rajya Sabha position. Sources indicate that the party leadership had suggested he transition to the Upper House and make way for a leadership change in the state, but Siddaramaiah is unwilling to accept the offer. Reports suggest that during recent discussions with the Congress high command, Siddaramaiah’s views may not have been fully taken into account, and he was directly informed about the proposed leadership shift. He is now expected to take a final decision by Thursday, adding further uncertainty to the political situation in Karnataka. His refusal is being interpreted by some within political circles as a possible sign of resistance to the central leadership’s plan. The alleged plan involves replacing Siddaramaiah with Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, reigniting discussions about the long-standing “rotational chief minister” formula reportedly agreed upon after the 2023 Karnataka Assembly elections. Under that arrangement, Siddaramaiah initially assumed the post, while Shivakumar was considered a key contender for a future term. Karnataka’s current assembly strength shows Congress holding 135 seats, comfortably above the majority mark, with BJP at 66, JD(S) at 19, and others at 4. Despite this stable numerical advantage, internal leadership tensions have resurfaced, raising questions about unity within the ruling party. The situation has now reached a critical point, with speculation growing over whether Siddaramaiah will comply with the leadership’s proposal or resist the transition. His next move is expected to significantly impact the political direction of the state and determine whether a leadership change will take place or a full-blown internal standoff emerges within the Congress in Karnataka.
