Farmers Arrest: Protesting Farmers Removed from Khanauri & Shambu Borders After 13-Month Sit-in

Farmers protesting at the Punjab-Haryana border for the past 13 months faced a police crackdown on Wednesday. Punjab Police, using JCB machines, dismantled tents at the Shambu border and detained several protestors. Officials stated that the highway would soon be cleared for public movement. The prolonged sit-in had caused significant disruptions, prompting authorities to take strict measures.Haryana Police also stepped in, announcing that once Punjab authorities clear the area, the highway will be reopened for traffic. The protests, led by farmer unions such as Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), were focused on demands including a legal guarantee for Minimum Support Price (MSP).With negotiations between farmers and the government remaining inconclusive, tensions have escalated in recent weeks. While authorities move to restore normalcy, farmer leaders have condemned the police action, vowing to continue their struggle. The removal of protest sites at both Shambu and Khanauri marks a turning point in the ongoing agitation, leaving uncertainty over the next course of action.
