Clash in J&K Assembly: Cameras Capture Khursheed Ahmad Sheikh’s Scuffle with BJP MLAs
On the fifth day of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly session (November 8), tensions continued to rise, leading to a heated confrontation. The session saw another intense debate over the proposal to restore Article 370, resulting in significant uproar. Marshals had to intervene to remove Engineer Rashid’s brother and Awami Ittihad Party MLA Khursheed Sheikh from the Assembly. The BJP has been consistently opposing the proposal for Article 370’s restoration. After the uproar began today, slogans were raised against the PDP. As soon as the session started, BJP legislators stood up, chanting slogans against the PDP and the Speaker. A similar scene unfolded on Thursday, with a major clash erupting in the Assembly. On one side were legislators from the National Conference and Congress, while on the other were BJP legislators, resulting in a near physical altercation with members grabbing each other’s collars and pushing. Lengate MLA Khursheed Ahmad Sheikh waved a banner in the Assembly, demanding the restoration of Articles 370 and 35A and the release of all political prisoners. BJP legislators, led by opposition leader Sunil Sharma, protested against this and began chanting slogans. The protest continued as BJP legislators approached Sheikh in the Assembly’s well, grabbing and tearing the banner from his hands. This led to further clashes with Sajjad Lone, Waheed Para, and some other National Conference legislators who came to Sheikh's support, resulting in a heated confrontation with BJP members.
