BJP Targets Congress Over Comments on Pahalgam Attack, Questions Party’s Stand on Terrorism

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has strongly criticized the Congress party over controversial statements made by some of its leaders regarding the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The BJP has accused Congress of weakening the nation’s stance on terrorism by making irresponsible remarks at a time when national unity is essential. While Congress leader Shashi Tharoor had earlier compared the Pahalgam attack to the October 2023 Hamas attack on Israel—saying even top intelligence agencies can't always prevent terror strikes—BJP leaders called such statements “defeatist” and “irresponsible.” The BJP also questioned whether Congress is trying to shield Pakistan, as the central government continues to hold Islamabad responsible for sponsoring cross-border terrorism.Meanwhile, the Congress party has attempted to downplay the internal controversy, claiming the remarks were made in a personal capacity and do not reflect the party’s official stand. However, BJP leaders insist that such statements harm India’s global position and send a confusing signal to the international community about the political consensus in India on matters of national security. The political war of words continues as calls grow louder for a united stand in Parliament against terrorism.
