Indian Coast Guard Hoists National Flag Underwater On Independence Day. WATCH

"Incredible! Indian Coast Guard personnel hoisted the national flag underwater near Rameshwaram to mark Independence Day,' commented one user after seeing the video.

As people across the country celebrated 77th Independence Day with great zeal and enthusiasm, the Indian Coast Guard shared an incredible video in which hey can be seen hoisting and saluting the national flag underwater at an event held near Rameshwaram in Tamil Nadu. Since being shared the video has gone viral with significant number of views.

"Underwater hoisting of the national flag by Indian Coast Guard personnel near Rameshwaram, Tamil Nadu on Independence Day," read the caption of the video shared by news agency ANI on the microblogging site Twitter.

In the seven second short clip, four Indian Coast Guards can be seen present beneath the ocean's surface. One of them is holding the flag tied to a pole, while the other three salute  are seen saluting the national flag.

Since being shared, the video has amassed over 2 lakh views, close to 11,000 like and several comments.

"Awesome! Proud of those who defend us!," commented one user after seeing the video.

Incredible! Indian Coast Guard personnel hoisted the national flag underwater near Rameshwaram to mark Independence Day, wrote another user.

while a third questioned and wrote, "Does the flag rule book allows to hoist a flag under water?."

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hoisted the national flag at the Red Fort in the national capital and addressed the nation in his 10th Independence Day speech.

Around 1,800 people from different walks of life had been invited as chief guest to the event.
