'Ganga Aarti' On Canada’s Credit River Triggers Online Backlash: 'Next Chatth Puja At Niagra' — Video

A video showing Indians performing Ganga Aarti on Canada's Credit River went viral, sparking mixed reactions.

A video of Indians performing Ganga Aarti on the banks of Credit River in Erindale Park, Mississauga, Canada, has gone viral on Instagram. Shared by several users, the video has grabbed the eyeballs of several users on social media platforms that mirrored the famous aartis on the ghats of Varanasi and Haridwar.

Priyanka, who is an Indian living in Canada for over a decade, shared the video with caption: “Ganga Aarti in Canada — A Divine Vibe, Miles from the Ganges... Not on the ghats of Varanasi or Haridwar, but right here in Canada. Living abroad doesn’t mean letting go of who we are... we weren’t NRIs, we were just Indians — connected, grounded, and grateful.”

In the video posted on social media platforms, traditional aarti thalis, devotional music, mantra chanting, and bhajans under the open skies in Canada could be seen.

Meanwhile, the video, after going viral, has witnessed mixed reactions from users on social media platforms.

"Who needs logic when you can export superstition across continents? An-bhkts perform Ganga Aarti on Canada’s credit river 🙆🏻‍♂️😅 Next, chatth puja at Niagra falls?," a user named Kshitij wrote on X.

"This is the most brain-dead thing I've come across this week. So....... These folks are worshipping credit view river as River Ganges 🤡🤡 Can't find a better example of Karmkand & Bahmanwad: mindless rituals and dogma sold as spirituality (& these days nationalism) to masses," another user named Unknown wanderer wrote on X.

"Spotted in Mississauga: Indian Hindus taking up public spaces for their Ganga Aarti ritual, normally performed at the Ganges River, not the Credit River. This is NOT India. Canadians need to step up, blast some heavy metal music and reclaim our country," a third user posted on X.
